Brazil takes a new step for the fight against Chagas disease

The Brazilian authorities has included Chagas in the list of diseases of compulsory registry

A Chagas disease patient registry should be very useful  to achieve a better understanding of the disease and assess patient care and quality improvement. It will also help to leverage Chagas disease as a priority for health systems. The compulsory registry of all cases of Chagas disease was one of the four points of Santa Cruz Letter, (read here) requested by Chagas Plataform and the Global Chagas Coalition. 

Ordinance No. 264, OF FEBRUARY 17, 2020

Amends Consolidation Ordinance No. 4 / GM / MS, of September 28, 2017, to include chronic Chagas disease, in the National Compulsory Notification List of diseases, conditions and public health events in public and private health services in throughout the national territory.

PORTARIA Nº 264, DE 17 DE FEVEREIRO DE 2020
Altera a Portaria de Consolidação nº 4/GM/MS, de 28 de setembro de 2017, para incluir a doença de Chagas crônica, na Lista Nacional de Notificação Compulsória de doenças, agravos e eventos de saúde pública nos serviços de saúde públicos e privados em todo o território nacional.
