WHO will launch a companion document to the road map that aims to assist countries endemic for neglected tropical diseases that manifest mainly through the skin.

Ending the neglect to attain the Sustainable Development Goals: a strategic framework for integrated control and management of skin-related neglected tropical diseases emphasizes a people-centered integrated approach to enable countries to tackle the morbidity, disability and psychosocial impact of skin NTDs and other skin conditions by identifying areas, key partners and resources.

Countries in which skin NTDs are endemic will be encouraged to adapt the framework to plan and implement integrated strategies based on the local endemicity of these and other skin conditions. Out of the 20 diseases listed in the NTD portfolio, more than half present with skin manifestations.

Grouping these diseases can combine activities for their simultaneous detection and treatment.

This, in turn, can yield multiple benefits, including:

- Optimal use of resources and staff.
- Strengthening of disease surveillance.
- Reduction in social stigma and discrimination.
- Better awareness and prevention measures, particularly in rural areas.
- Promote a general sense of well-being.

An integrated approach to skin NTDs can also reduce transmission, delays in diagnosis and treatment to alleviate costs.
