World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2023

"Act Now. Act Together. Invest in Neglected Tropical Diseases"

30 January 2023 - 30 January 2023

This fourth annual edition, the World NTD Day 2023 will be held on January 30th. The World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day is a global movement celebrated since 2020, on the anniversary of the 2012 London Declaration on NTDs, which unified partners around the globe to push for greater investment and action to end Neglected Tropical Diseases. Last year, the Kigali Declaration took the torch as a successor project, announced at the Kigali Summit on Malaria and NTDs.

"Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are widespread in the world’s poorest regions, where water safety, sanitation and access to health care are less than optimal. NTDs affect over 1 billion people globally and are caused by a variety of pathogens including viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi, and toxins.

These diseases are “neglected” because they are almost absent from the global health agenda, receive little funding and are associated with stigma and social exclusion. They are diseases of neglected populations and perpetuate a cycle of poor educational outcomes and limited professional opportunities". (Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General, WHO)

To achieve this, we need sustainable financing for NTDs. We can collectively generate the attention and resources needed to deliver against the targets outlined in the WHO 2030 NTD road map and the Sustainable Development Goal 3, on achieving universal health coverage; under the 100% Committed movement, launched in 2022 by Uniting to Combat NTDs, to begin securing political and financial commitments behind the Kigali Declaration on NTDs.
